Two Starbucks Stores in Alberta Vote to Revoke Union Representation

Last week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB) informed Starbucks that the Terrace Plaza and Kingsway Drive-Thru stores in Edmonton, Alberta, representing 38 partners (employees) voted to revoke their representation rights (decertify) from the United Steelworkers union (USW) effective immediately.
The secret ballot vote was conducted May 15 and 16, and the majority of partners who voted, voted to revoke representation by the United Steelworkers.
Starbucks Sherwood Drive location in Sherwood Park, Alberta was the first Canada store to decertify from the United Steelworkers union in September 2024.
Union representation is a personal choice, and Starbucks respects the right of all partners to make their own decisions regarding unions, whether they favour or oppose representation. Starbucks remains committed to creating a positive, collaborative, and inclusive environment for all our partners.
Starbucks operates more than 900 stores in Canada, and only 13 of those are represented by the United Steelworkers. There are eight collective bargaining agreements for those stores, and the remaining of represented stores are in various stages of the collective bargaining process.
