Clayton Crossing Store Partners Apply for Decertification from Union
Last month, partners (employees) at the Clayton Crossing Starbucks in B.C. made the independent decision to apply for partial decertification of their bargaining unit, seeking to no longer be represented by the United Steelworkers Union (USW). The union objected to the application, and on December 21, the B.C. Labour Relations Board (BCLRB) informed these partners that their decertification application has been denied and that they will remain unionized.
Starbucks respects the right to organize and bargain collectively under the Canadian labour laws. At the same time, Starbucks believes partners should be free to decide whether they want to join, or refrain from joining a union. We are disappointed that the actions of the USW and the decision of the BCLRB have denied these partners the right to choose.
