Sherwood Park, Alberta Partners Vote to Decertify

Today, the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB) informed Starbucks that our Sherwood Drive store in Sherwood Park, AB representing 21 partners (employees) voted to decertify, revoking representation from United Steelworkers (USW) effective immediately.

The secret ballot vote was conducted September 13, 2024, and the majority of partners who voted, voted to revoke the United Steelworker’s right to represent them.

Union representation is a personal choice upheld by the complex framework of Canadian labour law, and we respect the right of our partners to decide whether they want to join, or refrain from joining, a union.

This is the first Starbucks Canada store to decertify from the United Steelworkers Union and the second Canadian store to apply for decertification, the first being Clayton Crossing where the application was dismissed by the British Columbia Labour Relations Board in December 2023.
